If you’re like me, you may feel the weight of fatigue from our current political climate. I’m with you. You likely feel helpless and I did too but today I took some time to write a letter to TN Senator Lamar Alexander.
We can’t sit back and complain if we’re not willing to reach out and make our voices heard. This is just one way but the even better way is to check your voter registration and cast your ballot. I’ve included a link where you can check your voter registration and find the registration deadlines for each state in order to vote in the upcoming Primary Election.
Click here for voter registration info for each state.
Below is my letter. Whether you have the time to write a letter or send a quick message or make a phone call – if you care about the current impeachment trial and the vote for witnesses, contact your Senators!
First of all, I want to say thank you for your nearly two decades of service in the senate for the state of TN. As a TN native, I am thankful for you.
I am writing you today on behalf of the upcoming vote on Friday regarding witnesses in the impeachment trial of President Donald J. Trump. I have watched every single testimony of the House hearing as well as the Senate trial and I believe that the American people deserve to hear from John Bolton, Mick Mulvaney, and Mike Pompeo among others relevant to this case.
I am a registered Republican and I no longer feel comfortable aligning with this party or any party at all. I listen to interviews with your colleagues and I’m reminded that the reasons I’ve given up on party loyalty lie in the way that MANY of our representatives in various facets of government are more concerned with participating in a public partisan boxing match rather than coming to the table with an open mind, receiving the information and making a decision based on conscience over the direction of party leaders.
Senator Alexander, I know you are not seeking re-election and that gives you some freedom to vote as you please but I want to ask you to take it a step further – go to bat for us.
Go to bat for those of us who have been glued to our screens, ignoring the partisan rhetoric, and listening intently to decipher the truth.
Go to bat for those of us who are not buying the party lines from either side.
Go to bat for those of us who feel like dismissing the testimonies of various witnesses is part of a party cover up.
Go to bat for those of us who want to see our leaders held accountable not because we harbor disdain for this President but because we are fearful of the precedent that this sets for the future.
Go to bat for us, Senator. This matters.
